Derby de Mayo

This Weekend, You'll Be Sipping For The Win!
This weekend rings in the 145th Kentucky Derby on Saturday and Cinco de Mayo on Sunday! What more reasons do you need to celebrate the beginning of May?!?
To kick off this twofer of a weekend, I'm blending together a little Mint Julep Margarita that I found on Pinterest:
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 oz Bourbon
  • 1.5 oz Tequila
  • 1 oz triple sec
  • 1.5 oz lime juice
  • 1.5 oz mint simple syrup, or to taste
  • Additional mint, optional garnish
For the Mint Simple Syrup:
  • 10 mint leaves (small bunch)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cups water
Directions:
  1. Combine the ingredients (sugar, water and mint) for the mint simple syrup in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture is reduced by at least half, approximately 10 minutes. You want a sticky, syrupy consistency that will coat a spoon. Remove the mint.
  2. Let the simple syrup cool before making your cocktails.
  3. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the bourbon, tequila, triple sec, lime juice and mint syrup to taste. Shake until well chilled.
  4. Strain the cocktail mixture into two ice-filled glasses. Garnish with additional mint and enjoy immediately.
