Hey sis, how are you holding up?

The balancing act is EXHAUSTING. I am still processing everything I saw and read and listened to over the weekend. Being black is having a good day and then seeing another black person killed for no reason. Then you have to think about/talk about that all day, or don't, and numb yourself. It's a constant emotional war.  This is a burden my white sisters don't carry daily.  Honestly, this is what white privilege is at its core.  White privilege is not about money; it's the ability to walk around and feel safe, unbothered and unencumbered by the mantle of one's skin color. 

The pandemic was already some 'ish to deal with ... And then the domino effect of last week when the bandaid that was barely holding race relations in this country together was ripped off, has taken the ISH to disproportionate levels. Everyone reacts to situations differently. Take care of your peace sis. Turn the tv off, stop scrolling on social media, workout, do whatever it is that you need to do to protect YOU. The problem of the colorline is not going to be solved overnight, hell, it's been 400 years and sadly we're not as far along as many hoped we were.⁣

But listen, taking a break doesn't mean don't take a stand. Racism is a complex and powerful system that is like a malignant tumor that keeps coming back stronger. It's going to take each and everyone of us doing our part to dismantle it. Activism comes in many forms, choose a path that works for you. But, let's be honest, the truth of the matter is that our society will not be a just one until those unaffected are as outraged as those who are affected.⁣

So, for those of you trying to figure out what to do and where you fit in, start in your homes. On your blocks. Have frank conversations about race relations with friends and relatives who want to uphold the status quo. Contribute your time and/or money to the cause. VOTE. Educate yourself. Support is a verb. Being an ally means taking action. ⁣
