“The shoulders of the women that we stand on are three American heroes. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson — without them we would not know how to reach the stars.” – Taraji P. Henson
Today’s Woman Crush Wednesday goes out to the ladies who starred in the movie Hidden Figures! These actresses, Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae aren’t the only stars however. The ladies who inspired Margot Lee Shetterly‘s book (then turned film), Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson are also my woman crush everyday!
They were mathematicians who played an integral part in NASA’s space-race successes who are now inspiring young girls all around the world to keep pursuing their dreams and realize Math and Science aren’t just for boys.
Did you catch the Screen Actors Guild Awards last Sunday night? Well these actresses made an impactful speech after winning the esteemed award for Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture. Accepting the award, star Taraji P Henson said: “This story is of unity and this story is about what happens when we put our differences aside … Love wins. Every time.”
You can watch the rest of their amazing speech here.
