Weekend Lookbook :: City vs. Country

Look No. 1 – Cinco De Mayo!

Ole ole! So the weekend started on Thursday with Cinco De Mayo! Did you get a chance to check out my simple spicy Margarita recipe?!?! If not, just click here – trust me, you’ll be happy you did. We’re all busy celebrating Cinco De Mayo, but do you really know what Cinco De Mayo is? In the US it’s reduced to margaritas with chips and guac, but in Mexico May 5th is the date observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 (and not Mexico’s Indpendence Day as some mistakenly assume). Just thought I’d drop a little knowledge on ya by way of Wikipedia!

Look No. 2 – Peace, Love & Sooooul!

I promised myself that I would do more yoga this year and I am. I found a great studio in Connecticut and an amazing instructor, a woman named Cruz. Cruz is not your typical yogi – she does not play “yoga” music. The first class I took with her she played Earth Wind & Fire and Chicago in honor of the fact that the two bands were touring together. Two weeks ago she played all Prince songs (yes, I started to cry when Purple Rain came on). And this week because it’s rained so much on the East Coast her playlist was all songs about rain. Love her and love my Saturday morning yoga routine.

Look No. 3 – Cooking With Blue Apron

My husband loves the grocery store and tends to over buy when he’s let loose and I’m just the opposite …. I really have to be in the right mood to go to the grocery store. So, what’s a couple to do? Order Blue Apron of course! We were early adopters, I think we’ve been using Blue Apron since it’s inception a few years ago. What’s not to like? It’s economical – just $30/per person for 3 meals, I mean you really can’t beat that, right? You only get the amount of food you need – no waste and no gaining extra pounds. And the best part? They deliver a box just like the one above with everything you need to make three yummy meals. Now, I must admit – some weeks I like Blue Apron more than others. And, sometimes the recipes are a little convoluted, but overall it makes our lives much easier, keeps money in our pockets and has helped us to reduce unnecessary food waste.
