Weekend Lookbook :: Family & Friends

Look No. 1 – Jazz At Lincoln Center

We had a double date Thursday evening with our Jazz at Lincoln Center seatmates, Betty and Tony. We’ve had a subscription to JLC for the past 7 or 8 years and each year we make sure we both reserve the same seats and the same set of performances. We hit it off, in no small part due to Tony’s charming personality. You know how there are just some people who have personality for days? They’re lovely people, a good deal older than us, but the rules of friendship don’t always apply in New York. We noticed last year at a concert towards the end of the season that Tony didn’t seem to be himself. Betty pulled my husband aside and told him that Tony was having some memory issues. This year we’ve seen our friend struggle to come to grips with his changing reality. In April, they told us that they weren’t going to renew the box with us because they wanted to see a more diverse musical selection for the 2016 – 2017 subscriber year. We were shocked to say the least. JLC without Tony and Betty? …. Tony asked if we’d meet them for dinner before the final show on Thursday. We did, we had a ball. We always do with them. Tony was having a good day. Definitely memories and a friendship we will continue to cherish. Oh, and the show was good too. A tribute to Miles Davis.

Look No. 2 – Uninterrupted White

effie's paper - GNY Links Induction Save the Date

Each year, Links chapters across the country induct new members into their circles of friendship. My chapter’s new member induction took place on Saturday. I was delighted to design the invitations and all of the collateral for the event. For Links, wearing “uninterrupted” white is a part of the tradition for induction ceremonies. However, finding an uninterrupted white outfit that you want to wear for longer than the length of the ceremony has historically been a challenge!  But, with the onslaught of all of these Summer white parties there’s no longer a dearth of white options.

I’m always on the lookout for a Links appropriate “uninterrupted” white outfit (we have to wear white to a lot of different things). It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a clotheshound. But, I definitely like to mix it up – I’ve been known to do high, low and somewhere in between without batting an eyelash. That said, I was skeptical when a friend told me about stylewe – it almost seemed to good to be true (you know you’ve seen their emails pop up in gmail and their ads are all over Facebook). But, I placed my order and hoped for the best. Ya’ll I fell in love with this outfit when it arrived! Super cute, right? Just had to share this great find with my girl gang!

Look No. 3 – Unicorns & Mermaids

I decided to make a quick trip to Indiana to visit my sister and her family for a few days. My niece, also known as my mini-me, is going to be a dandelion in her third grade classes’ performance of Alice in Wonderland. So, we’ve been spending time together catching up and talking about unicorns, Santa Claus, mermaids and the Tooth Fairy. It’s kind of cool when one of your #BFFs is nine and these are major topics of conversation that she’s listed she wants to talk to you about in person. Her choice between being a unicorn or a mermaid? Mermaid. Why? Because it would be an easier transition from a human to a mermaid of course.

We had a girls’ day on Sunday – lunch, shopping and then the 3-D version of John Favreau’s The Jungle Book. After school today we went to gymnastics (3 hours … you parents, wow – that’s all I can say, wow), tomorrow is the play and then dinner out to celebrate.  Basically, I’m just chillin’ in the ‘burbs sittin’ on the corner of Awesome and Bomb Diggity having a good time with the fam. All in all it was a pretty good weekend!
